Click to see an image a Value Stream Map.  This unique method, often used in Lean Manufacturing, combines data/information flow with the process flow of a specific product.  It is quite useful to very quickly obtain a good general overview of your production facility, from “door to door”.

The map shows the product path, starting from the supplier, ending at the customer.  This is an example of a Current State, a snap shot in time.  The actual values can be different, changing daily.  The one page map can be used to identify and discuss the following:

·        material flow

·        cycle diagram: zones vs. time vs. temperature

·        information flow

·        WIP/Inventory/Stores

·        customer: who, demand,

·        customer production schedule

·        suppliers of raw materials

·        raw materials (x3), ordering frequency & delivery periods & transport methods

·        raw materials (x3) storage size & consumption

  • Nr. Of Teams, nr. Of Shifts, nr. Of Operators, Cycle Time, Availability
  • three main processing functions
  • production planning system: meetings & documents
  • inventory storage locations: Nr. of days production coverage
  • value adding vs. non value adding phases
