We use different SPC techniques to determine sustainable and continuous quality and reliability.  The following method divides the band between the Upper and Lower Limits into 6 equal zones.  The point distribution is used to determine the actual condition, the current state.  SPC is used to set up a Plan Of Action.

8 Tests to Determine Out Of Control Conditions:

  1. Any points above the UCL or below the LCL
  2. 7 Points in a row going up or down
  3. 7 points in a row above or below the mean
  4. 2/3 points in a row in zone 3 or beyond
  5. 2/5 points in a row in zone 2 or beyond
  6. 3 points in a row in zone 2 or beyond
  7. More than 22/25 points in zone 1
  8. Less than 10 points out of 25 in zone 1

We consider the following 4 conditions to determine Machine/Process Capability and Control:

  1. Condition A is ideal and should always attempt to achieve.  This condition is controlled and capable.
  2. Condition B is acceptable, but should be improved to obtain Condition A.
  3. Condition C is uncertain.  The condition is capable but out of control.  This condition need to be constantly supervised and adjusted to retain control.  Once the condition is in control, one can determine if the condition follows A or B.
  4. Condition D is not capable an out of control.  To bring this condition back on track one will need to define and implement specific measures.  Once it is in control, one could evaluate the capability.  This condition can only be used to forecast or predict the trend.

Our SPC Strategy:

  1. Investigate measurement techniques and values
  2. Machine Capability Study
  3. Process Capability Study
  4. Plan Of Action, Kaizen
