In groups, teams, communities and organizations information is informally exchanged on a daily basis. A Social Analysis (SA) is a method that measures the communication and information flow. The graph below indicates the incoming and outgoing information flow. "In" refers to when a person is being asked for help or information. "Out" refers to a person asking or requesting help or information. The total sum of In and Out activities indicates key players. The graph can also be used to indicate members who do not participate. One could use it to conduct an investigation to determine why a particular person's activity is low, or lower than expected. A Social Analysis, combined with a Value Function Analysis, can be conducted for specific topics, like "Who is most familiar with the Chrome Plating Plant's 5 departments?".
Other graphs could be used to illustrate multi-divisional information flow within an organizational hierarchy. In this particular case, employees H and B are most experienced and knowledgeable.
